From Theory to Practice: Stroke Management for Nurses
ASNEN in collaboration with the Angels Initiative have developed this 20-hour training program for all nurses involved in caring for stroke patients. The aim of the program is to provide you with education around all aspects of stroke and stroke care, and to share best practice approaches to help improve patient outcomes across Australia.

- Unit 1: Pre-hospital & emergency stroke care (1 hour)
- Unit 2: Stroke assessment (1 hour)
- Unit 3: Hyperacute brain imaging (1 hour)
- Unit 4: Medical recanalisation – Thrombolysis for ischaemic stroke (1 hour)
- Unit 5: Surgical recanalisation – Endovascular thrombectomy (ECR) for ischaemic stroke (0.5 hour)
- Unit 6: Additional hyperacute stroke management approaches (0.5 hour)
- Unit 7: Management of haemorrhagic stroke (1 hour)
- Unit 8: The role of telehealth in stroke management (0.5 hour)
- Unit 1: Stroke Unit care – what does it involve and what are the benefits? (1 hour)
- Unit 2: Ongoing acute care management/monitoring – A systems approach (1 hour)
- Unit 3: FeSS protocol and dysphagia (45 minutes)
- Unit 4: Understanding the underlying course of stroke (0.5 hour)
- Unit 5: Stroke aetiology informs secondary prevention (1 hour)
- Unit 6: Neuro critical care and ICH care (0.5 hour)
- Unit 1: Leaving the hospital (1 hour)
- Unit 2: Ongoing investigations (0.5 hour)
- Unit 3: Life after stroke (1 hour)
- Unit 4: Case studies, exercises and quizes (1 hour)
